Octavia Hill - Housing - IWD
A Housing Heroine and Champion for Women 👩‍💼 In the 1800's, Octavia Hill revolutionised social housing in the UK while shattering barriers for women in the process; she saw a dire need for dignified and affordable housing, and she embarked on a mission to transform lives, not just buildings 👪 Octavia started by buying several houses in Marylebone, gradually increasing her stock to 15 housing schemes and 3,000 tenants in 1874 and insisting that her rent collectors were women 🏠 In 1916, the women who had trained under her founded the Association of Women Housing Workers, which has since then become today's Chartered Insitute of Housing 💪 As a woman, she paved the way for future generations to make their mark on the world; she challenged the status quo and her work ensured that everyone, regardless of gender or background, had access to decent housing ✨ “We all need space; unless we have it we cannot reach that sense of quiet in which whispers of better things come to us.” Octavia Hill, inspiring inclusion for International Women's Day 🌍 @[Shivani Sahaya](urn:li:person:vlnkrBffy8) @[Sydney Asher](urn:li:person:E0BzKgCzf_) @[Millie Winfield](urn:li:person:CHCBe8Mr5m) {hashtag|\#|inspiringinclusion} {hashtag|\#|socialhousing} {hashtag|\#|internationalwomensday} {hashtag|\#|IWD} {hashtag|\#|womenshistory} {hashtag|\#|equality} {hashtag|\#|charteredinstituteofhousing} {hashtag|\#|CIH} {hashtag|\#|housingmanagement} {hashtag|\#|octaviahill} {hashtag|\#|parkavenuerec}
