Area Team Manager - Development Management

I am working with a Local Authority in the Devon area who are seeking an experienced Area Team Manager within Development Management on a 6-month interim assignment. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior planning professional with strong leadership and technical expertise to manage a high-performing team while leading on major and corporately significant applications.

The Role:
As the Area Team Manager, you will:
* Lead and manage Development Management officers, including workload allocation and performance management to ensure service targets are met.
* Act as case officer on major and high-profile planning applications, providing expert advice across complex planning, design, environmental and viability matters.
* Play a key role in the wider management team, contributing to strategic decision-making and service development.
* Present reports and provide professional advice at Planning Committee, deputising for the Head of Development Management where required.
* Represent the Council at appeals, hearings and public inquiries, acting as an expert witness when necessary.
* Ensure all decisions and recommendations comply with planning legislation, policy and regulatory requirements.
* Work closely with Members, internal departments and external stakeholders to support effective service delivery.

Contract Details:
* Duration: 6 months initially
* Rate: £82.60 per hour via Umbrella
* Working pattern: Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office
* Hours: Full-time
