Team Leader (Major Projects) Opportunity in Essex - Up to £65 per Hour

Initial 6-month contract likely to be extended.

I am currently partnering with a highly regarded Essex-based Local Authority with a fantastic reputation, who are looking for an experienced Team Leader (Major Projects) to join their Development Management team on an interim basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on a portfolio of significant major applications while mentoring staff and helping shape the future direction of the service. The authority has a strong pipeline of major developments, including Green Belt schemes, and offers a supportive, collaborative working environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead the Major Projects team, overseeing the determination of complex planning applications and providing technical guidance to planning officers. You will play a key role in driving performance, mentoring staff, and delivering high-quality planning outcomes across a range of exciting development projects.

The Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of planning officers dealing with major planning applications.
• Oversee the determination of complex and high-profile development proposals.
• Mentor and support junior and senior staff within the team.
• Provide expert planning advice to applicants, agents, members, and stakeholders.
• Review and sign off reports and recommendations.
• Attend Planning Committee and present applications where required.
• Assess and manage applications involving Green Belt land and related planning policy considerations.
• Help drive service improvements and contribute to the ongoing success of the team.

Experience Needed

• Previous experience within Development Management in a Local Authority setting.
• Experience managing or mentoring planning staff.
• Strong background determining major planning applications.
• Proven experience dealing with Green Belt applications.
• Excellent knowledge of planning legislation and policy.
• Ability to lead projects and manage competing priorities effectively.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
