A Local Authority in Essex is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to support its team on an interim basis. The role is predominantly focused on Private Sector Housing, with some involvement across Environmental Protection matters, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied workload.
You'll be joining a busy and supportive service at a time when councils continue to navigate increasing demand within housing enforcement and evolving legislative requirements.
Key Duties:
- Investigate housing complaints and undertake HHSRS assessments.
- Carry out inspections of private rented sector properties and identify hazards and disrepair.
- Take both informal and formal enforcement action where necessary.
- Draft notices, schedules of work, reports, and case records.
- Provide advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, and agents.
- Support Environmental Protection work, including nuisance investigations and related casework.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to improve housing and environmental standards across the district.
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience working within Private Sector Housing in a Local Authority setting.
- Strong understanding of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
- Experience managing housing enforcement cases independently.
- Exposure to Environmental Protection work would be advantageous.
- Strong communication, investigation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to hit the ground running and manage a varied caseload.
