Housing Officer

South East England Contract £27 - £30 Per Hour

We are currently working with a well‑established local authority housing provider seeking an experienced Housing Officer to join their Neighbourhood Services team on an interim basis.

This is a hands‑on role managing a defined patch of homes, with responsibility for tenancy management, estate standards, anti‑social behaviour, and resident engagement. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership of a neighbourhood and delivering visible outcomes for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a patch of council homes, ensuring estates are safe, well‑maintained, and compliant
  • Carry out planned and reactive estate inspections, identifying repairs, estate improvements, and tenancy breaches
  • Investigate and manage ASB cases, including complex cases involving vulnerability, safeguarding, and environmental nuisance
  • Deliver tenancy management activities including sign‑ups, successions, mutual exchanges, and tenancy audits
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns such as hoarding, domestic abuse, or mental health needs, making appropriate referrals
  • Support void and rent‑loss minimisation through pre‑termination inspections, pre‑let viewings, and swift re‑lets
  • Manage abandoned properties and ensure legal processes are followed where enforcement action is required
  • Handle complaints and enquiries from residents, Councillors, and MPs
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to deliver joined‑up solutions

About You

  • Proven experience in a Housing Officer / Neighbourhood Officer role within a local authority or social housing setting
  • Strong working knowledge of housing law, landlord & tenant legislation, and ASB tools and powers
  • Confident managing complex cases involving vulnerable residents
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, and problem‑solve
  • Able to manage a busy caseload independently while meeting deadlines
  • IT‑literate and comfortable working with housing management systems
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use

  • Hybrid working with regular estate and office presence
  • Immediate or short‑notice starters preferred
