Planning Enforcement Officer

I am working with a Local Authority in the Devon area who are seeking a Planning Enforcement Officer on a temporary assignment. This is an excellent opportunity for an enforcement-focused planner to manage a caseload of planning enforcement cases, contribute to investigations, and support compliance with planning legislation.

The Role:
As the Planning Enforcement Officer, you will:
* Investigate and report on complaints relating to planning and development issues, working with senior enforcement colleagues and other Council teams.
* Carry out site inspections and detailed investigations of planning records and site histories. Monitor compliance with planning conditions and approved plans, updating records of complaints and actions taken.
* Prepare reports for Committee and attend meetings as required.
* Compile evidence and statements for enforcement appeals.
* Provide planning advice to the public and respond to a wide range of enforcement enquiries.
* Maintain close liaison with Parish/Town Councils, elected Members, other departments, authorities, and outside bodies.

Contract Details:
* Duration: 3 months initially
* Hours: 37 per week
* Rate: £40 per hour
* Working pattern: Minimum 2 days per week in the office with administrative work able to be completed remotely once fully trained
* Vehicle: Access to own vehicle required

Experience Required:
* Strong understanding of planning enforcement and relevant legislation.
* Experience conducting investigations, site inspections, and preparing reports.
* Ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Members, colleagues, and the public.
* Confident in preparing evidence for appeals and attending Committee meetings.
