Planning Officer (Development Management)

I am working with a Surrey-based Local Authority who are seeking an experienced Planning Officer to join their team over the summer period, supporting the assessment and determination of householder applications and small-scale minor developments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and knowledgeable planning professional who is confident working independently and managing a busy caseload. The role will involve working on a variety of applications, often in areas with complex planning constraints, including:

• Green Belt

• National Landscape designations

• Flood risk areas

• Listed Buildings

• Conservation Areas

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and determine a high volume of householder and minor planning applications.

• Provide clear, robust recommendations in line with planning policy and legislation.

• Liaise effectively with applicants, agents, stakeholders, and internal consultees.

• Balance multiple competing priorities and constraints to deliver high-quality decisions.

• Maintain a strong weekly turnover of applications, ensuring timely and consistent performance.

About You:

• Proven experience handling householder and minor development planning applications.

• Strong working knowledge of relevant planning policy and legislation.

• Comfortable working with complex constraints and sensitive sites.

• Excellent time management and case-handling skills.

• Strong communication and report-writing abilities.

This role would suit someone who is well-organised, efficient, and experienced in managing a high-volume caseload with professionalism and consistency.
