Planning Officer (Development Management)
I am working with a Surrey-based Local Authority who are seeking an experienced Planning Officer to join their team over the summer period, supporting the assessment and determination of householder applications and small-scale minor developments.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and knowledgeable planning professional who is confident working independently and managing a busy caseload. The role will involve working on a variety of applications, often in areas with complex planning constraints, including:
Green Belt
National Landscape designations
Flood risk areas
Listed Buildings
Conservation Areas
Key Responsibilities:
Assess and determine a high volume of householder and minor planning applications.
Provide clear, robust recommendations in line with planning policy and legislation.
Liaise effectively with applicants, agents, stakeholders, and internal consultees.
Balance multiple competing priorities and constraints to deliver high-quality decisions.
Maintain a strong weekly turnover of applications, ensuring timely and consistent performance.
About You:
Proven experience handling householder and minor development planning applications.
Strong working knowledge of relevant planning policy and legislation.
Comfortable working with complex constraints and sensitive sites.
Excellent time management and case-handling skills.
Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
This role would suit someone who is well-organised, efficient, and experienced in managing a high-volume caseload with professionalism and consistency.
