Principal Planning Officer - Minerals and Waste

East Midlands Contract £55 - £64 Per Hour

I am currently working with a Midlands-based Local Authority that is looking for an experienced Principal Planning Officer to provide additional capacity within its Minerals & Waste Planning team.

The service is currently experiencing a significant increase in workload and needs someone who can hit the ground running, work independently and require minimal management.

The successful candidate will provide specialist planning support across a busy Minerals & Waste service, with the workload focused predominantly on quarry-related applications and development. You will be expected to manage your own caseload, provide robust planning advice and progress applications efficiently from assessment through to determination.

The Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of Minerals & Waste planning applications, predominantly quarry-related.
Assess complex planning proposals and provide sound professional recommendations.
Prepare high-quality planning reports and recommendations.
Liaise with applicants, agents, consultees and other stakeholders.
Provide specialist planning advice and negotiate where required.
Work independently and manage your workload with minimal supervision.
Contribute to the wider Minerals & Waste Planning service as required.

Experience Needed

Principal Planning Officer level experience essential - strong Senior-level candidates with significant relevant experience may also be considered.
Extensive Minerals & Waste Planning experience.
Strong knowledge of quarrying and mineral-related development.
Previous Local Authority Development Management experience.
Ability to work independently and manage a demanding workload with minimal supervision.
Excellent report writing, negotiation and communication skills.
