Principal Planning Policy Officer

I am working with a Local Authority in the South West who are seeking a Principal-level Planning Policy Officer to support the Planning Policy team on their Local Plan. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced planner to contribute to strategic decision-making as the team moves into the next phase of the Local Plan, including site assessment and public consultation preparation.

The Role:
As the Principal Planning Policy Officer, you will:
* Provide oversight and support to officers working on individual Local Plan projects.
* Contribute strategic input into the development of the Local Plan, including drafting strategic options and assessing potential development sites.
* Work closely with Members to communicate evidence clearly and build support for the preferred direction of the plan.
* Assist in preparing for public consultation scheduled for summer.
* Translate complex technical evidence into accessible strategic options to support decision-making.

Contract Details:

• Duration: 3-months initially
• Hours: Full-time
• Rate: £55 an hour via Umbrella

Experience Required:
* Strong experience with Local Plan preparation and interpreting evidence bases.
* Skilled at translating technical planning evidence into strategic options.
* Confident engaging with Members and presenting planning evidence clearly.
* Experience in a collaborative, small-team environment preferred.

Meetings/Attendance:
* Attendance at monthly key Member meetings required.
* Additional meetings as needed to support projects or Member engagement, which may be grouped with the above meetings.
