An Midlands-based local authority is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Manager to lead a high-performing Private Sector Housing team responsible for improving housing standards, protecting tenants, and ensuring compliance across the private rented sector.
This is a key leadership opportunity for an experienced environmental health or housing professional who can provide strategic direction, operational oversight, and robust regulatory management within a busy local authority setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the operational performance of the Private Sector Housing service
- Oversee enforcement activity, investigations, inspections, and complex casework
- Ensure delivery of service objectives, KPIs, and financial targets
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and service improvement plans
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance management to staff
- Advise senior stakeholders, committees, and partner organisations
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting housing services
- Support strategic development and continuous improvement across the service
Essential Experience
- Degree in Environmental Health (or equivalent)
- EHORB registration
- Extensive experience within Private Sector Housing / Regulatory Services
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior or high-responsibility role
- Strong knowledge of housing enforcement and regulatory controls
- Experience preparing legal notices, prosecution files, and tribunal/court documentation
- Proven leadership and team management capability
