Senior Environmental Health Officer

6-Month Contract

A Council in Hertfordshire are looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to join their team on a 6-month initial contract, paying £50-£55 an hour.

This is a varied role with a strong focus on Private Sector Housing, giving you the opportunity to lead on housing enforcement, licensing, and complex casework while supporting the wider service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct HHSRS inspections and investigate complaints.
• Lead housing enforcement, including notices, civil penalties, and prosecutions.
• Manage HMO Licensing applications, inspections, and compliance.
• Support the Council's wider Licensing schemes.
• Act as a consultee on planning and licensing applications.
• Mentor junior officers and provide technical guidance.
• Prepare reports, notices, and legal documentation.
• Support the wider service as required.

About you:

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Experience working in Local Government.
• Strong knowledge of Private Sector Housing, HHSRS, and the Housing Act 2004.
• A recognised Environmental Health Degree/Qualification.
• Experience delivering enforcement and regulatory action.
• A background in HMO Licensing and compliance inspections.
• Confidence managing complex casework independently alongside supporting/mentoring junior colleagues.
• Experience preparing notices, reports, and legal documentation.
