I recently advertised this role, but my client in Essex is still looking to recruit a Development Management, and has increased the hourly rate to £70.00 p/h. My client is looking to offer an initial 3-month temporary contract. Please note that this role requires 2 days a week presence on site (compulsory Wednesday), plus attending meetings when required.

The Opportunity:
They are seeking to employ a qualified and experienced individual who has the ability to lead and support a team of Planning staff through a busy period and temporary management absence. You will be required to provide timely and effective guidance, ensuring compliance, good practice, risk management, and enabling the Council to deliver for its customers seeking or interacting with Development Management services. The role would support the existing Team Leader and will also involve carrying a small caseload of Major applications/Pre-applications and PPA (Planning Performance Agreements).
Key Responsibilities:
- To support the existing Team Leader in managing the Development Management officers
- To provide effective operational leadership with high standards of service delivery
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, legislation, professional codes of conduct, health and safety requirements and adherence to council policies, whilst the Head of Development Management has functional responsibility for the wider Development Management Service
- To support the delivery of projects, interventions and initiatives and develop policies in-line with corporate and business plans as required by the role
- Ensure and develop appropriate levels of quality and knowledge within the team so that high customer service standards are achieved, applying effective and timely performance management within assigned service area.
- Ensure that enquiries, complaints and cases are managed and completed at the appropriate level
- Effectively manage officer performance to deliver priorities, providing regular reporting as required.
- Be a role model for the service, demonstrating authenticity, integrity, resilience and compassion and focussing on communication, personal development and wellbeing
The Experience you will bring:
- Demonstrable expertise and experience across the broad remit of the role, having the ability to work at the level required for this role
- Experience of management, leading and ensuring high standards of customer delivery, balancing strategic support and practical operational management
- Experience and demonstrable knowledge of a Local Authority Planning Department and associated regulations and governance arrangements * Educated to degree level in Planning or a relevant subject
- Thorough working knowledge of practices, methodologies and legislation within Planning
- Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or equivalent
