A forward-thinking local authority in Cambridgeshire is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to support its Private Sector Housing function during a busy period of service demand.
This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team focused on improving housing conditions, tackling poor standards in the private rented sector, and helping the council prepare for ongoing legislative changes, including the implementation of the Renters' Rights Act.
Key Duties:
- Undertake housing complaints investigations and carry out HHSRS assessments.
- Inspect private rented sector properties to ensure compliance with housing legislation.
- Take both informal and formal enforcement action where required.
- Produce notices, schedules of work, reports, and case records.
- Provide advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, and agents.
- Support the delivery of HMO licensing and related regulatory activity.
- Work alongside internal and external partners to improve housing standards across the borough.
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience working within Private Sector Housing in a Local Authority
- Strong understanding of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
- Experience undertaking property inspections relating to disrepair, hazards, and licensing.
- Confidence managing enforcement cases from investigation through to resolution.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and prioritise competing demands.
- Someone who can quickly integrate into the team and make an immediate contribution.
