Are you an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer or Environmental Health Officer looking for your next contract?

I'm supporting a Hampshire Local Authority that is looking to appoint an experienced officer to join its Private Sector Housing team, helping to improve housing conditions and protect residents across the private rented sector.

The role will involve managing a varied caseload, responding to service requests, inspecting privately rented properties, identifying hazards and taking appropriate enforcement action. There will also be opportunities to work across HMO licensing and enforcement, including identifying and addressing unlicensed licensable properties.

Key responsibilities:

• Carrying out inspections of privately rented accommodation and identifying housing hazards.
• Responding to complaints and service requests from tenants in the private rented sector.
• Managing a varied private sector housing enforcement caseload.
• Taking appropriate informal and formal enforcement action where required.
• Advising and engaging with tenants, landlords, managing agents and other relevant parties.
• Inspecting Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
• Supporting HMO licensing processes.
• Identifying and investigating unlicensed licensable HMOs.
• Progressing cases in accordance with the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS and other relevant legislation.
• Maintaining clear case records and independently progressing work through to resolution.

Essential experience:

• A recognised Environmental Health qualification or relevant private sector housing enforcement experience.
• Strong knowledge and experience of housing standards and private rented sector enforcement.
• Experience of HMO licensing and enforcement.
• Good working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
• Strong inspection, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• The ability to independently manage a varied caseload.
• Confidence communicating with tenants, landlords, agents and partner organisations.
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
• A valid DBS check.

The successful candidate will need to work between 30 and 37 hours per week, with hybrid working and three days per week on site.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer or Environmental Health professional to join a busy and supportive regulatory team on an initial 6-month contract, offering £40-£50 per hour depending on experience.
