Rate: £20 - £30 per hour (umbrella, dependent on experience)

An East of England-based Local Authority is seeking an organised and detail-oriented Technical Licensing Officer to join their busy Licensing Team on an interim basis. This role is ideal for someone with strong administrative and legislative understanding of licensing processes, looking to make an immediate impact within a dynamic local government environment.
The Role
You'll provide vital technical and administrative support to the Licensing Team, ensuring licence applications are validated, processed, and issued efficiently in line with legislation and Council policy. You'll also assist with investigations into potentially unlicensed properties, liaise with enforcement officers, and maintain high standards of accuracy and customer service throughout.
Key Responsibilities
Validate and process licence applications in accordance with relevant legislation and council policies.
Enter and maintain accurate records on the council's database systems for all property licence types.
Liaise with Responsible Authorities, landlords, and agents regarding application progress.
Prepare and issue licences and associated documentation upon approval.
Support the investigation of complaints and potentially unlicensed properties.
Undertake mid-licence term checks and renewal reminders.
Provide a consistent point of contact for applicants, ensuring excellent communication throughout the process.
Work closely with enforcement and legal teams to ensure a joined-up approach to housing and licensing compliance.
Essential Requirements
Experience working in an office or administrative environment.
Strong IT literacy across Microsoft Office and licensing systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 (Selective Licensing) and the Licensing Act 2003.
Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Team player with a proactive and professional approach.
Flexible attitude towards hybrid and remote working.
Desirable:
Experience working in a Local Authority Licensing Department.
Familiarity with the Gambling Act 2005, Street Trading, Animal Licensing, or Scrap Metal Dealers legislation.
