Principal Planner (Development Management)
Central England | Hybrid working | 6 month contract
Are you a Principal Planning Officer looking to gain some Team Leader responsibilities?
A council in Central England are looking to appoint an experienced Principal Planner to support its Development Management service on a contract basis through to March 2027.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a varied caseload of major planning applications, primarily residential and mixed-use developments, while providing professional oversight and sign-off across a range of planning decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a caseload of major planning applications, predominantly residential and mixed-use schemes ranging from approximately 80 to 250 dwellings
- Signing off planning applications and providing professional planning advice to colleagues
- Negotiating and managing Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs)
- Preparing and presenting reports to Planning Committee when required
- Assessing applications within Green Belt locations and providing advice on policy compliance and planning merits
About You:
- Significant experience handling major residential applications
- Comfortable signing off applications and providing technical oversight
- Strong understanding of Green Belt policy and planning legislation
Contract Details:
- Contract until March 2027
- Hybrid working arrangement
- 1 office day per week, with additional attendance required for committee meetings and site visits
- Opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of strategic development proposals
