We're partnering with a Surrey-based Local Authority that is significantly strengthening its Private Sector Housing and Enforcement team as demand across the service continues to grow.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join a busy, high-performing team dealing with complex and meaningful enforcement work across the borough.

The Role

You'll be responsible for managing a varied caseload across the Private Rented Sector, with a particular focus on enforcement, compliance, and driving up housing standards.

Duties will include:

  • Undertaking HHSRS inspections and property investigations
  • Managing complex housing complaints and disrepair cases
  • Taking enforcement action under the Housing Act 2004
  • Serving Improvement Notices and Prohibition Orders
  • Investigating rogue landlord activity and non-compliant HMOs
  • Supporting HMO licensing and compliance activity
  • Preparing prosecution files and Civil Penalty cases where required
  • Liaising with legal teams, landlords, tenants, and external agencies
  • Supporting the council through upcoming Renters Reform changes

About You

The council is looking for an officer who can confidently manage their own workload and hit the ground running from day one.

You will ideally have:

  • Recent Local Authority Private Sector Housing experience
  • Strong knowledge of HHSRS and Housing Act legislation
  • Experience undertaking formal enforcement action
  • HMO licensing and compliance experience
  • Ability to manage complex cases independently
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
