Park Avenue Recruitment is currently working with a London Borough seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their Private Sector Housing team on an interim basis.
The role sits within a busy, high-demand London borough with a diverse private rented sector and a strong focus on tackling poor housing conditions, rogue landlords and unlicensed HMOs.
You'll be responsible for a varied caseload, carrying out HHSRS inspections, investigating housing complaints and hazards, and taking enforcement action under the Housing Act 2004.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake HHSRS inspections and assess Category 1 and 2 hazards.
- Investigate complaints including damp and mould, excess cold, fire safety, electrical hazards and overcrowding.
- Investigate unlicensed HMOs and licensing breaches.
- Prepare and serve Improvement Notices, Hazard Awareness Notices and other statutory notices.
- Gather evidence, prepare case files and conduct interviews under caution where required.
- Manage enforcement cases from investigation through to resolution.
- Liaise with landlords, tenants, managing agents, Legal Services and partner agencies.
- Attend tribunals, appeals and court proceedings where required.
About You
You'll have strong experience in Private Sector Housing, Housing Enforcement or Environmental Health within a Local Authority, with good working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS. Experience of HMO licensing, enforcement investigations and preparing statutory notices is essential, along with the ability to manage a varied caseload independently.
