We are looking for a Finance Manager to join a Local Authority in the Home Counties for an initial 6-month period.
The focus of the position would be on the technical end of year financial accounting for capital, including updating fixed asset register, and preparing/reviewing journals and notes to the accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the accounting and financial management of all council capital projects, ensuring accurate recording and reporting.
- Prepare and monitor capital budgets and forecasts, providing insightful analysis to senior management.
- Ensure capital expenditure is correctly capitalised in line with statutory accounting standards and council policies.
- Produce regular management reports on capital programme performance, highlighting risks and variances.
- Support internal and external audits, maintaining robust documentation and ensuring compliance with regulatory and council requirements.
- Provide guidance and leadership to finance staff involved in capital accounting and project monitoring.
About You:
- Qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA/ACCA) with significant experience in capital/project finance.
- Strong knowledge of local authority accounting standards and capital regulations.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Experience leading finance teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
